In recognition of World Hunger Day, Durham County residents are invited to celebrate this important day with a large outdoor event on Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. World Hunger Day Durham will be held at Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street, Durham, North Carolina.
The goal of World Hunger Day Durham is to raise awareness of food insecurity experienced in the community, as well as to highlight the oustanding work being done to support Durham county residents and create a more fair and equitable food system. Attendees will celebrate all that food means with friendship, music, arts, and entertainment for the entire family, including food trucks, giveaways, free snacks, educational opportunities, bounce house and more.
“We intend to create a joyful and welcoming atmosphere where families and individuals can experience new foods, learn about healthy eating that incorporates culture and is budget friendly, find out about helpful resources, and just relax and enjoy the day,” said Durham County Food Security Coordinator Mary Oxendine
World Hunger Day Durham is free and open to all the public. The event is the cooperative effort of the following organizations: Durham Congregations in Action, Durham County Cooperative Extension, Durham County Public Health DINE (Durham’s Innovative Nutrition Education), Durham County Social Services, Durham County Soil & Water Conservation District, End Hunger Durham, Feed My Sheep, Mount Calvary United Church of Christ, Triangle Nonprofit & Volunteer Leadership Center and Unite Us.
