Colonial Village residents have various park, greenway and natural spaces in and near the neighborhood.
Nature Preserves
Colonial Village is home to the Beaver Marsh Nature Preserve, a 34 acre protected area owned by Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association. It is located between Club Boulevard and Interstate 85, just behind Compare Foods off Roxboro Street.
Parks
Two city-operated parks are within walking distance: Northgate Park and Rock Quarry Park.
Northgate Park
Northgate Park amenities include a Healthy Miles Trail; picnic area with tables, shelter and grills; tennis courts; a playground for children, dog park, a section of the Ellerbee Creek Trail; and restrooms.
Rock Quarry Park
Rock Quarry Park is currently under renovation and will be adding new amenities. The park has picnic tables; tennis courts; a new access to the Greenway (Ellerbee Creek Trail); and trails in the wooded areas from an NIS Community Grant and Northgate Park volunteers. A future dog park up will be built by Edison Johnson pool & recreation center in the same wooded area.
Greenways
Colonial Village is within walking distance to Ellerbee Creek Trail and South Ellerbee Creek Trail. Both intersect Northgate Park.
Durham Parks Foundation
Local nonprofit that sources grants/funds to build more great Durham parks, trails, and amenities, including the recent Red Maple Park playground/park upgrade near to Colonial Village residents, and others in near range such as the new Enviro-Education Pavilion/Piedmont Prairie at West Point Eno and the new extra Dog Park at Duke Park.
