Colonial Village is a neighborhood located in the northern part of the city of Durham, North Carolina. Prior to the arrival of Europeans to the Durham area, two Native American tribes, the Eno and the Occaneechi, lived and farmed this region.
In the 20th century, most of northeast Durham was part of a large district known as Bragtown or Braggtown. A large majority of the homes located in what we currently know as the Colonial Village neighborhood were constructed after World War II, in the 1940s, 50s and 60s.
In the late 20th century, neighbors organized to create the current Colonial Village neighborhood.

Colonial Village Boundaries
Colonial Village is bounded on…
• the north by the back property line of Maynard Avenue, the 2900 block of Banner Street and properties on both sides of Bon Air Avenue to and including 620 Bon Air Avenue
• the south by the centerline of Interstate 85
• the east by the back property line of Lindberg Street, including all undeveloped streets and lots and to Maynard Avenue, including the Ellerbee Street cul-de-sac
• the west by the centerline of Roxboro Street
Colonial Village Neighborhood Association
Colonial Village has a Neighborhood Association called Colonial Village Neighborhood Association (CVNA). The organization’s goals include:
• Encourage community pride and unity.
• To be a voice for common interests.
• Provide an avenue for neighborhood social activities.
• Serve as custodian of a healthy and prosperous neighborhood.
• Promote citizen participation in all issues affecting the neighborhood.
Beaver Pond Business Association
On August 16, 2006, representatives from businesses on Avondale and near the intersection of Roxboro Street and Club Boulevard gathered with representatives from Duke Park Neighborhood Association, Northgate Park Neighborhood Association and Colonial Village Neighborhood Association to start up the Beaver Pond Business Association, named for the beaver pond that lies in Colonial Village, behind the Durham Plaza shopping center (home of Compare Foods and Big Lots). The goals of the Beaver Pond Business Association were to prevent crime, discourage vagrancy around the businesses and clean up the neighborhood.
It is unclear if this association is still active as of 2022.
