A severe thunderstorm that crossed the City of Durham on Monday, May 23, 2022, caused widespread damage, including downed trees and power lines. Hundreds of Northgate Park residents lost power for several hours.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-0 tornado touched the ground down in Durham County on Monday. As reported by the National Weather Service, the tornado had a maximum wind speed of 136 kilometers (85 miles). It touched down just blocks northeast of Colonial Village, around Glenbrook Drive, De Mille Street, Hinson Drive, Waring Street and Da Vinci Street.
